man, the asexual tag is a bad place to be today.
”I wish Moffat hadn’t said that thing about Sherlock’s asexuality”
“OMG stop projecting your problems onto fictional characters you are so stupid what’s the matter with you”
“Man, House sure had a bad portrayal of asexuality.”
“Oh, so you’re saying asexuals have worse problems than LGBT people?”
“I’m asexual”
“fuck off, you freak, stop trying to be a special little snowflake!”
lol okay
It’s stuff like this that compels the asexual community to be so careful all the time. I feel like I have to walk on eggshells around any issue because if I express my true opinion and someone disagrees with it, it will reflect negatively on the community as a whole. I wish people would understand that when one or two people say something, it’s not representative of every asexual. I truly don’t understand why people are so ridiculous when it comes to asexuals. There seems to be this assumption that all asexuals believe they face worse oppression that LGBT people, or that we all slut-shame, or that we’re all somehow terrible people with terrible opinions. This is so incredibly untrue.
The ace community is just as diverse as any other group, but one thing is fairly consistent: we’re nice people. Every group has a handful of bad people, but the vast majority of asexuals I encounter just want to be accepted for who they are. Sometimes I feel like we are the Canadians of the sexual spectrum. We’re just really polite and worried about offending people and ultimately we just want everyone to get along. There’s nothing wrong with that.
And now to wait for the posts accusing the asexual community of appropriating Canadian culture…
